The Cards: Tongits is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. In most cases, the deck is shuffled and dealt to the players face-down. Each player receives 12 cards, and the remaining cards are placed in a stack as the draw pile. The top card from the draw pile is flipped over to start the discard pile.

Game Rounds:

  • Turn Sequence: The first player starts by drawing a card either from the draw pile or the discard pile. After drawing, they discard one card, ensuring there is always a discard card at the end of each turn. The next player follows the same pattern: draw, discard, and continue the cycle.

  • Forming Combinations: As the game progresses, players aim to form valid combinations with their cards. A "set" is made of three or four cards of the same rank, and a "run" consists of three consecutive cards of the same suit.

    • A valid set: 8♠, 8♣, 8♥
    • A valid run: 4♠, 5♠, 6♠

Knocking: A player can "knock" when their hand consists of valid combinations and a small number of unmatched cards. If a player knocks, the game round ends, and each player’s hand is evaluated for points. If the knocker has the lowest score, they win the round. However, if someone else has a lower score, they win instead.

Tongits: A "Tongits" is a special situation where a player has successfully formed all their cards into sets and runs and has no cards left. This is the ultimate goal in the game, and when a player does this, they automatically win the round.

Scoring System

After a round ends, players tally the points of their remaining cards. The cards are worth their face value, with face cards (Jack, Queen, King) worth 10 points each and Aces being worth 1 point. Players who have knocked or won by Tongits have a chance to score the least number of points, and those with higher points will lose.
